My experience as TEFL/TESOL student.
Hi, I am Marleen, a Dutch national living in Florence. After a business career, I decided it was time to change direction. Teaching was my choice. I choose TEFL Tuscany to follow the TEFL/TESOL 4-week intensive course to become an international certified English teacher. It turned out to be a great decision and a stepping stone to my new life as a teacher. I did the course in January 2020.
TEFL Tuscany provides a professional and friendly atmosphere to succeed. The staff offers a very structured approach with attention to linguistic methods, grammar, lesson planning, assessment skills and self-reflection. All age groups and levels are covered, from beginners to more advanced learners.
Already in week 1, the centre makes it possible for you to teach your own classes. A throw in the deep end, but so effective. The feedback from your peers and teachers are honest and constructive. There is plenty of opportunities to work shadow experienced teachers. The career advice at the end of the course is helpful.
The TEFL course is serious and fun. The more you put in, the more you get out of it. A big thank you to Kristin Lanese, one of the directors, and to all other colleagues at the school to make it happen.
In addition, I did the online TBE, Teaching Business English course, which is only made available to you once you are certified to teach TEFL.
I am now teaching English in Florence, Italy and enjoying it. You can find me here: www.englishafirenze.com
